Upper Rock Nature Reserve, Rock of Gibraltar
A trip to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar is a must. St Michael's Cave
St Michael's Cave has fascinated visitors for hundreds of years. Ancient stories tell of a mythical subterranean passage under the Strait of Gibraltar to Africa through which the Barbary Macaques were fabled to have migrated to the Rock. The Cathedral Cave is now open to visitors and makes a unique auditorium for concerts, corporate events and drama.
Dating back to the 11th century, this Tower of Homage is all that remains of the original castle complex that once stretched all the way down to Casemates Square, located at the north end of Main Street. Great Siege Tunnels
Dating back to the 1780s, the Great Siege Tunnels are impressive in their size and extent. Initially using only rudimentary tools and gunpowder, workers began a project that was to span centuries, culminating in a period of excavation during the Second World War which resulted in the creation of more than 30 miles of tunnels.
Sitting high above Gibraltar's central districts, the Alameda Gardens houses a botanical garden to rival the best in the world. Opened in 1816, adjacent to a historic parade ground, the gardens incorporate specimens from subtropical climates and feature a spectacular amphitheater that provides a venue for an outdoor summer theater, concerts and private functions.
